As such it's steeped in history as is the whole area surrounding the Manse. It's situated in the village of Kirknewton ( approx 10 miles from Edinburgh City Centre) with Kirknewton Church directly opposite. Perfect for Scottish holidays.
Kirknewton Parish is situated at the foot of the Pentland Hills (which is dotted with numerous Lochs, Reservoirs, Hill Walks etc). The Pentlands were inhabited for many centuries by the indiginous Picts. Soon after AD, Rome exerted it's power and conquered this entire area and peoples.
The original Church was founded in 1246 and you are still able view its remains in the burial ground of the present day Church to this day if you so wish. The new Manse (ie our house as it stands now) was established in 1750 due to the parish being enlarged. 70 years on we see the Manse itself undergoing enlargement. Here is the ' Statistical Account of 1844' description...
We hope this snapshot of history is useful. Whether it's history you crave or not, we'd be delighted to be part of your perfect Scottish holiday.
